Magic and Bird Courtship of Rivals review

Magic Johnson was born for the spotlight and always knew what he wanted to do at a young age. There was a lot of racial tension in his school while he was growing up but he was seen as the guy that could fit in every crowd and he pushed through this tension and everyone liked him. He just shrugged this tension off. A reporter gave him the nickname magic and he stuck with it throughout his career. Larry Bird was magic's competition and he was picked for a team that played against magic johnson. He was seen as a hermit he didn't like interviews and he was raised tough. So he was seen as the complete opposite as magic. Bird played for Indiana state and Johnson played for michigan. This movie showed that they were complete rivals but could play on a team together and play well with each other. A little healthy competition can go a long way. I really enjoyed watching this story about these complete opposites come together and play on the all american team.

Straight Outta LA Response

This video about the raiders was very interesting. This team had really good defenses and really represented the heart of LA when they were moved to Los angeles. It was a merger of gangster football and gangster rap. And even though they moved again out of LA the logo will always be connected to LA. This team was rough around the edges and violent. They were a very good team and had a lot of players in the hall of fame. They had great energy in Los Angeles and they were excited and energetic in this city. They were a violent team and los angeles was a violent city so it seemed like the perfect match. Ice Cube talks about the raiders in a heart felt way and he makes it clear that the raiders will always belong to LA.

project proposal

For my project that I will present to the class I would like to do the topic Women's Golf and I will call this project from the red tee's. I will explore and teach the class about women's influence in the golf industry and the sport itself. There are many professional women golfers but many people do not understand their influence on the sport and their fans. I will also explore why women are important to this sport and why they are just as important as men when it comes to competing. I will give examples of some professionals who are women and how they have changed the sport in a positive way and this project is really meant to show the class that golf is great sport for both genders.
Guiding questions:
1) why are women beneficial in this sport?
2) What is the difference between men and women in this sport and why should this be overlooked?

Lou Zamperini

I really found this story entertaining and I fell in love with Lou the more his story went on. I felt like he had gone through so much in his life like the plane crash, time in the prison on the island, and then being moved around Japan. But he never gave up. I thought it was funny when him and phillips were talking about how when they were on the raft after a while they had Lou talk about recipes that he would make for them he said that he would make them breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday and that it felt like they were really eating. His comment that followed was and after a while they got greedy and wanted brunch. I thought that it was really good of him to follow God and learn from his experiences and forgive all of the people that mistreated him.

Alive and Kicking Response

I found this story touching and really interesting. This school bus driver who was transporting war refugees came up with the idea for a soccer team and was very passionate and driven in her decision. She had the three boys that were on her bus search far and wide for other team members. They ended up with 23 at the practice the next day who were not ready to be a team in any way. They did not have cleats or uniforms on and didn't seem very prepared. She discovered that they were from Afghanistan and Sudan and she had a blast with these boys. No one believed she could coach these boys because she was female but she was the best on her teams growing up and she knew she could do it and she pushed past the negativity which i admire greatly. She cared for the boys. An example of this was when the boys were supposed to have practice but were hiding behind a dumpster because of a fight. She went to the one teammates house and made sure he was ok and took him to the hospital. She seemed very nurturing throughout this story. She also proved this in the fire as well. She met tracy one day when her funds seemed to be gone for her team and tracy answered all her prayers.

paper 2 topic

My topic for the second paper will be youth sports in America. My narrower topic will be about the First Tee organization and how it helps inner city kids.
